In my Elevator Guy remarks, I have had to write down a number of words and then reflect on their meaning in my life. I have had the chance to write them down, reflect and then hopefully act on them daily. Just part of my learning experience of life. Here are some of the words that I have found to have great meaning to me. See if any of these resonate with you as well:
- Humble and Kind | I love Tim McGraw’s song about this topic. Check it out
- Energetic and Enthusiasm | You will never get anything done unless you are energetic and enthusiastic about it.
- Selfless | You may have heard the old saying, “It is better to give than receive.” That means you need to get outside of yourself and make a positive impact on others to find the real you.
- Trust | No organization or relationship can operate well without trust.
- Belief | Choose to believe in yourself and in others. Having a good sense of self-worth is important in our journey of life.
- Balance | Work on a balanced life physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
- Positivity | Learn that life isn’t always fair but look for the good in all situations. The way you look at things (your attitude) will impact your reaction. Make it a positive one in looking for new opportunities to grow.
- Empathy | Be mindful of other’s feelings. Remember, it is never about YOU but about others. You are fine. Accept yourself where you are in your journey and go forward in faith and hope for a better tomorrow.
- Thankful | Be thankful in all things. Even those tough times (Amor Fati) which just may allow you to grow stronger. Sometimes it takes a setback or a failure to show us the light.
- Growth | Never settle for just getting by. You will need to grow in order to improve and we all can improve at something.
- Accepting | First, accept yourself. You are special and bring value to others. Then, go accept others where they are in their life. It will make it easier to connect.
- Soulful | Make sure you taking care of your own soul. Too many of us want to change others without understanding WHO we are. Seek to understand THEM.
- Reputation | Take an audit of your own personal reputation with your spouse, your friends, your organization and your community. Others are watching you so be a good role model.
It is up to you to start your own personal plan for Living. Try Loving yourself and others a little more each day. Try Laughing at yourself and with others more. It can be the best medicine life has to offer. Learn what works for you but make sure you are heading down a good path. Not one of self-destruction but one of giving, which means you need to make sure you look around and make an impact on others. This will show you the way.
Finally, what you do today will impact your personal legacy. Make it a good one that others will want to emulate. Be someone that is good but not perfect because none of us are perfect.
What words are you living by?
