What are you looking for? If you are searching for something, is your own light on so that you can see it or are you just going through life blindly, hoping that something good might appear? A couple of broad questions but two that are so important in life because if you are not looking for something good, life will control you and eventually pass you by without you really understanding your purpose and meaning. Yes, you might find some success by seeking the approval of others, winning the lottery, following all the man-made rules, or inheriting someone else’s legacy by just keeping your head down. But what are you really looking for? We may be on the right path but if it doesn’t match our vision for our life, (and most visions are hard to hold because life will be full of distractions) we will wander aimlessly through life with shallow relationships.
Remember one thing. God is looking for you at any and every stage of your life. He offers the freedom of lasting forgiveness and redemption. He sent Christ to knock at the door of your heart. (By the way, how big is YOUR heart?) Sometimes, nobody is home, or we refuse to answer the knock because we are too busy and distracted to follow. You really don’t have to look too far because He is in everything and everyone. You just need to notice the good and look past the insecurities in each of us, as most of us still have a flicker of light left to share. We just don’t know how powerful that light can be to and for others. (One of the Navy Seals’ Pillars; “Focus Outside Yourself”) How illuminating is YOUR light towards others?
With our Foundational Band of Brothers, we have laid out some important road maps which we call our “Four Pillars.” These include: Wisdom, Courage, Self-mastery and Love. Throughout our life, many of us look for friends, lovers, attention, approval, a job, rewards, happiness, accolades, new relationships, and often spend more time than necessary in hopes of finding them all. Look for them in the deep relationships with others which takes commitment, accountability, and vulnerability, along with trusting and encouraging others, but will never happen unless you are intentionally looking for it.
The only thing that really matters in life are your relationships. Especially to those that you love and that love you. Having an “Attitude of Gratitude” will help inspire others if you are walking around with your light on. Your relationships will make or break your life. Relationships are about taking a journey together. Make it a good one by bringing your stories together with others by the way you live, love, laugh, learn, listen and lead. Keep your head up, your eyes wide open, and your light on, as our stories not only bind us together, but can go dark and tear us apart if we are not careful.
What are you searching for? Even if you are not in the last quarter of your life like the Elevator Guy, FINISH STRONG! Turn your light on and build those deeper relationships which will allow you to find YOUR deeper meaning and purpose in life. Make sure you know where you are going and that you are on the right path. Find the path that has the brightest light because it is much more enjoyable when you can see your clarity of purpose together. Remember; HIS steps are much easier to follow and should allow you to carry those that you love, along with you. (See Stephen Covey’s “The 8th Habit” which says; “Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs.”
