That’s Awesome

AWESOME LIFE

In today’s society, I can’t tell you how many times I hear the word “Awesome.” (That’s Awesome) Yes, awesome is a wonderfully powerful word that is intended to “lift” both the speaker and the listener. While the word awesome gets thrown around a lot these days, I hope you can find your own “Awesome” many times a day. (Real Awe) These are moments that get you excited, gives you goosebumps, makes your hair stand on end, and literally takes your breath away. We see it in children as their brains jump around “Learning” what is good or bad, what they want and need, what they do and say. (How and what are you big kids learning?)

Studies show that awe-inspiring (There is that word INSPIRE again) experiences make a HUGE positive difference in the psychological parts of our lives. Having these daily experiences can make us happier, help us feel more connected to others, and lead us to act with greater kindness. (Something the world needs a lot more of right now.) Moments of awe can boost our mood, improve our work performance, reduce the stress responses in our body, and add to our overall mental health. Without any awe in your life, daily living can become predictable and grey. So much stimulus and so little focus on the truly important and loving things life has to offer. (Try a little gratitude here for all of those “awesome” things and people in your life)

Psychologists have taught us that there were only six emotions: Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Surprise, and Disgust. Try thinking of Awe as another emotion because it is a positive one that will outweigh the negative ones in your life. Of course, all of our emotions have a purpose. The six emotions are all personal. If we look at “Awe” as our seventh, it should be the strongest one to draw us together for the collective good. (“Awesome”) We might ask ourselves; “Am I the only one having these awesome experiences?” They may make us feel small in a HUGE world, but they may just make us feel “alive.” The next time you have an “awesome experience,” think about who you are having that awesome experience WITH and what does it mean? It probably means you connected some of the dots in your life (and your heart) as to how awesome life can be. Celebrate and reflect on those positive feelings because we all crave more of them.

We will keep this week’s remarks short as there is lots to unpack and discuss. Each of us is unique and each of us have awesome moments. Hopefully numerous ones daily. (See our Daily 7) If not, try changing the way you look at things. Remember, it is YOUR reaction to things and others that is in your control and if you dwell on the negative each and every day, life will give you fewer “Awesome” moments. Look for beautiful and awesome moments because they are all around you. Spend some time with children as they are unfiltered and more animated than us “old fuddy-duddies.” (Something our teachers love to see each and every day)

Harkening back to our Theme for our Band of Brothers and Women of Worth: Live Simply (Because God makes life Awesome by putting other people in our lives); Love Fully (Love is a powerful weapon against being hateful); Laugh Often (Don’t take yourself so seriously) Learn Habitually (You will find awesome in the unexpected); Lead Humbly (Leading others is an awesome experience if you are a true leader rather than a positional leader); Listen Intently (if you are not listening to others, awesome may pass you by); Leave a Lasting Legacy (Be an awesome partner to someone in your life. Your God, your spouse, your children, your business associates, your mentors, and your friends. They NEED you to elevate them in life by role modeling your positive traits.)

Go “Make” life awesome. Make others proud to know you. That’s awesome!
