Please Understand Me

OCTOBER 29, 2021

We ALL go through life with LOTS of requests from others. Why don’t we START with understanding ourselves FIRST before we go making requests of others? We all NEED and CRAVE to be significant in some way or to make a difference in other’s lives. Whether it is with our families, our work, our athletic abilities, hunting, fishing, ANYTHING. Some of us are good at a few things and some are good at many things. My take is that you need to understand yourself and then GO and try to understand others. Once you do, life will be SO MUCH more rewarding as we won’t be worrying so much about the motives of others. A hundred years from now, WHO CARES anyway?

Yes, we all have our jobs. It is up to leadership to help set a vision and a culture that may allow for success. It just depends on how EACH of us defines our own success within that organization. Am I adding value to the organization or am I bringing others down to my level where we can all be the same?. If you have a negative outlook on life, we tend to want everyone to come down to our level and be miserable with us. Well, I choose a different course. I choose to be positive in hopes that we can ALL learn to understand each other. We all have different levels of drive and motivation and it is NOT wrong to have a few that REALLY want the organization to succeed. We are ALL capable of bringing our best to the firm each and every day. Yes, we all have lots to learn about ourselves and others but why not try UNDERSTANDING our WHY we are in business?

You may have started your day with, “Today was going great until, PEOPLE.” We all have frustrations with others. Frustrated that you didn’t get that promotion, frustrated that you can’t be like someone else, frustrated that you felt you were hurt in some manner. GET OVER IT. You don’t get frustrated because of events. You get frustrated because of your beliefs. We all believe we should be number one and that WE are the only ones with an opinion. The only way we might get there is by tearing OTHERS down. I suggest you look inside yourself and work on yourself and your belief in others. Some people go through life NEVER believing in themselves. (Self-esteem) Somewhere along their road, they were told that they were not good enough or big enough, or strong enough. I say BS!

We are ALL special in some way and it is up to us to find out who we are, what strengths and personality we bring to the table and then make the BEST of ourselves. Do you want to be frustrated with someone? Be frustrated with yourself and then go to work on improving your “People understanding” skills. Once you learn that others might have the same thoughts, work on a positive solution to those issues and bring it to the group. DON”T just complain and gripe because you are not getting YOUR way. That is your EGO working overtime.

We all bring something to table. Find out what it is that YOU bring to the table and then go be more intentional about showing it to others. You might even learn something about yourself that you did not know. This means you have to think outside of yourself as to the NEEDS of others. What drives them? What motivates them? What makes them so happy and SING for joy? There are people out there WAITING on you. Step up and be someone that your organization can count on. Someone who is not afraid of taking responsibility. Someone who does not mind being held accountable.

Life is so much more FUN when you know who you are and where you fit in life. Life can be cruel at times but don’t let it get you down. Find ways to lift yourself up and then MOVE ON. Find yourself a “Mentor” or a new word for mentor that I would like you to think about. Find a “Sponsor”. There are those that want to shepherd YOU through life. Think about someone that has made a difference in your life and then go thank them. They were and are STILL your BEST sponsors.

Try looking for and believing in others. Also, try “Sponsoring” others in their life. They are waiting for you.
