OCTOBER 2, 2020
I often reflect on that fateful day of September 11, 2001, when United Airlines Flight 93 became the only one of four planes not to hit its target. (assumed to be either the Capitol or the White House) The plane took off 40 minutes late from Newark airport headed for San Francisco. Because of those delays, Flight 93 was still in the air well after the three other planes had crashed into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. Those hijacked passengers were able to learn of the crashes and made a heroic choice and decision to fight back. They knew they were all going to die so the “Let’s Roll” spirit was all about their selfless act to die fighting.
Where is the “Let’s Roll” spirit in your life? What are you willing to die fighting for? We are all going to die. Only God knows when and how. Hopefully, you can all live a long and prosperous life with the goal to live it abundantly and in giving God the glory. Unfortunately, the heroes on Flight 93 didn’t have a lot of time to reflect on making funeral plans or how big the lettering would be on their tombstones. (What’s YOUR legacy?) God had already pre-destined that for them. They were united in their understanding that they were all going to die. Why not fight and do battle with the enemy together? That is something each of us needs to think about in our own lives. This takes COURAGE. There are many enemies out there, seen and unseen. Some trying to hurt you physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. All of them hurting your precious pride, your thin-skinned emotions, your political ideology, and your heart and soul. Quit playing the victim! Get inspired to battle by doing something GOOD about it. Battle your enemy. The enemy is probably within you.
What is it that you need to act on today to make things better? Is it owning up to and taking responsibility for your mistakes? Making amends by forgiving someone whom you have hurt (forgive yourself too!) or that has hurt you? Maybe your clock is running out and you don’t know what to do. I suggest you get rolling by first becoming self-aware as to your own enemy. Work on it and work on your relationships with family and friends. (And God) You might just be surprised they love you more than you ever imagined. Don’t make it about you. Make it about THEM. (Or HIM) If you are not afraid, you can accept the peace and grace that has been offered.
Pretty deep stuff for this week’s remarks and lots to digest. Go seek others (Mentors) to share your concerns and questions. There are people that want and need to hear from you. Inspire others with your “Can-Do” spirit. It is guaranteed to LIFT you up. God has lots more in store for you so be listening for what is next. Be prepared. Once you hear your battle cry…”Let’s Roll”, then make something good happen. Rather than worry about being recognized by others, why don’t you think about what impact you can have on your family and friends. Are you a jerk or are you a loving husband/wife, mother/father, or grandma/grandpa. The way you are modeling your life right now is what others see. Is it something of beauty or is it a picture of a bitter old man/woman who has played the victim card his/her entire life?
Be a warrior. Transform your Mind and Heart. Be a hero to someone. Start with yourself. Love yourself in a healthy manner yet make sure you bring others along with you because we ALL need others to help us and us to help them. Begin YOUR selfless acts to die fighting. “Let’s Roll”
