Miss Teri and I just returned from visiting friends in San Diego where I had the chance to finish a great book that brother Randy gave me entitled; “Jesus Politics” by Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame. I hadn’t understood too much about him until I read one of his many books. Robertson grew up in the Louisiana bayou, just an ordinary “red-neck,” which is probably why we don’t here much about him in the elite media today. He played football for Louisiana Tech and became famous with a multi-million dollar sporting empire with his family, “facing everything from beavers to business deals in their own special way. All with a twist of downhome practicality and a sharp sense of humor.” Just my kind of ordinary guy.
In this divided world of politics which permeates our society, Robertson talks about his own politics which he calls “Jesus Politics.” In our country today, both sides of the political isle speak about “the Battle for the soul of our nation.” Based on what is happening in our society, I couldn’t agree more. (Our perceptions, biases and ideology are our great divider) However, Robertson points out that the long serving politicians are NOT always the solution to our country’s problems. In fact, he shares that power, greed, and corruption are the problem. He points out the difference between conservatives and liberals. He suggests one party wants to control our homes, our schools, our businesses, our life, our family, our dog, and our faith with their definitions. If you don’t agree, you are censored or shunned. They seem to worship power and materialism more than the “Spiritual” solutions needed, which is not one born of the hearts of men. Where is YOUR heart?
He suggests, that, in order to win the souls of men, we need a common strategy. A statement of purpose or what he calls; “A Kingdom Manifesto.” This is different from the “Power Manifesto” of both political parties. The power of a manifesto is a declaration of intent. What is YOUR intent for our country? Is it to “Have it your way?” or follow something bigger than all of us. Putting our faith in a government made up of wicked men (and women) is not our solution. They want to us to become “befuddled” and confused which is their political ideology of creating chaos and dissention. This, of course, is foolish and bankrupt. (Try a little “Spiritual Warfare” here.)
The United States was built on the rule of law and a godly foundation, a kingdom foundation called Christianity and it is under fire every day in all of our institutions. Robertson shares how YOU can read the stiches on that slow curve ball our politicians throw at us Americans. If interested, stand firm and don’t be fooled. Knock it out of the park when you see it coming by reading one ordinary man’s convictions about the American way of life. Don’t be part of the “group think” going on in our world today. Think for yourself as to what is the truth in bringing us beauty, goodness, unity, and hope into our lives.

Quote for the Day: “There’s a vast difference between the Supreme Court and the Supreme Being. The King’s laws for living supersede the laws of any man-made rules and regulations.” Phil Robertson
