What Are You Seeking?

DECEMBER 23, 2022

The word “Seek” is a verb or action word meaning; “an attempt to find (something); an attempt or desire to obtain or achieve; and asking for (something) from someone.” In past Elevator Guy remarks, we have talked about seeking to understand, rather than to judge. A good rule to follow if you want to build strong relationships in the world. We have also talked in past remarks about seeking success and all the trappings that come with it. As a reminder, we should define for ourselves what it is to be successful because we are all special and unique in God’s eyes. For the more mature crowd out there, find your own voice in the world and then assist others with theirs. It is merely part of the “Circle of Life.”

In our studies with our foundational Band of Brothers, we begin by having each of us ask ourselves; “What do I want and what do I need in life?” Think about that question because, what you think about most is what you will become. That is what you will seek. If you only think about what you want, then you may be passing over the basics of life as to “What you really NEED.” Yes, we all need the basics of life to exist. (see Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs pyramid) Once the basic needs are met, we can move up the pyramid by understanding our own needs and wants in life. But what it is that you are really seeking in life? What is your vision for your future? Begin with the end in mind by writing down your vision and then work to prepare yourself, to hold and carry out that vision. Make sure you write down WHO you plan to take with you on your “Seeking journey.” Check with others to see if you are on the right path as they can assist you in understanding WHO you are and WHO you are becoming in this life. That will end up being your lasting Legacy in life.

As you seek, build on your own natural talents to empower and energize yourself if you are seeking changes in your life. If you are not curious or love being a seeker, then life just might be too comfortable, easy or boring. (Not always a good thing) In a world of so much freedom of choice, many of us become apathetic and just try to go along to get along. We don’t have the courage to seek Wisdom; (rather than merely knowledge) Self-mastery (the BIG ME); or Love (The most powerful weapon in the world); to share with others because we are so busy trying to survive. If you want to grow, you must shed some of your past. (Try forgiving yourself first) Learning is important but re-learning might be more difficult because we have made it a habit in our lives.

Since these remarks are so close to Christmas and a new year, make it your goal to set clear priorities and seek those things that are freely given. The cost will not be measured in dollars and cents. It will be in time, prayer, and meditation. The benefits are so critical as to “WHO we are and WHO we are becoming.” For starters, try this verse; (Mathew 6:33) “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
