What Do You Fear?

OCTOBER 15, 2021

What do you fear? We ALL have certain fears and hang-ups that live within each one of us, often our entire lives. If interested, why not work on overcoming your fears in order to live a more peaceful, happy, healthy, and prosperous life? It might be the best thing you ever accomplished.

I recently read that, “When you are no longer afraid is when you can be yourself.” I call it, “Living Life with your Mask off.” To be yourself, you must “Know yourself;” fears and all. What are you afraid of? Fear of failure; fear of being found out that you are not as cool or smart as you think you are; fear of looking stupid in front of your peers by how you talk, act or dress; the fear of losing control over someone or something; the fear of not belonging; the fear of looking weak; the fear of not being perfect; the fear of not having enough money; the fear of not measuring up to what other people think you should be; the fear of losing friends; or the toughest one for many of us old folks, the fear of dying. You had better figure this one out soon because we are all going to die in this life. Just take the next FREE step. You might be surprised how freeing it can become in washing away those life consuming fears many of us carry around. Aristotle reminds us; “He who has overcome his fears will truly be free.”

Here are some tips you can work through with your fear, in helping you live the life you deserve;

  • Once you feel fear, reflect on that fear. Write it down. Challenge it. What is it REALLY that you fear?
  • Check your Daily 7 list of things that you are grateful for in life. It will help by putting positive thoughts into your mind.
  • Remind yourself that your anxiety is only temporary. Be wise in knowing that things will be better tomorrow.
  • Exercise. The importance of taking a short walk in order to process and work through your fears can be the best medicine.
  • Use humor to deflate your worst fears. Fears can be real to many of us but if you can learn to laugh at yourself, (Be a little more positive) it will help take the edge off your greatest fears.
  • Appreciate that you are strong and can work through this with others. They may be suffering from the same fears. Don’t build on each other. Just encourage and inspire each other to overcome your respective fears.

All of these tips sound so simple but we have to have the courage and wisdom to work through our fears on a daily basis. Begin with the end in mind. If you continue to build on your fears throughout your life, it will only harden your soul, your heart, and hurt relationships with others. Don’t play the victim. Play the champion by overcoming your own fears. Then, turn around and help someone else through their fears. Two heads are always better than one.

Zig Ziglar reminds us; “Fear has two meanings: “Forget everything and RUN” or “Face everything and RISE” the choice is yours.” How are you dealing with your fears?

Finally, have a “Can-do” attitude. If you think you can do something, you are more than likely to be successful rather than just taking life as it comes. Have a little FAITH that things can and will work out. Share your fears with your FAMILY and friends but don’t make it their problem. (They have their own problems and it is up to you to meet your fears head on.). Don’t become stuck in a dark world where there is no hope of ever coming out. Look up and look for the light. We all are afraid of something. Own it, but deal with it by trying to be better tomorrow than you were today. You can do it.
