Invest in Yourself and Others

WANT SUCCESS? BE OF VALUE

If you want to be successful in life, (Make sure it is YOUR definition and not someone else’s) you may want to consider investing in yourself first. Once you become an adult, you are responsible for your choices, your actions and your behaviors. Please take that responsibility seriously because other people are counting on you. However, once you reach a certain position of leadership in your life, you NEED to invest in others.

Our leadership roles in life come with many benefits. We have the gift of life that will be rewarding if we choose the correct path. That takes wisdom, self-mastery, courage, and love to achieve all that you choose to attain. That is why many of us work so hard to “achieve” in life. We enjoy the titles, the privileges, the recognition, the authority, and the public esteem. But don’t get caught up in worshiping any one of these benefits because there will certainly come a time when you will have to forfeit them. There is no better time to start investing in others than right now. Wherever you are in your career, begin planting positive seeds by building strong relationships with other successful people. That means you need to find yourself a mentor or mentee that can listen, challenge and affirm the daily decisions you are making in your life. Be intentional about moving forward with your thinking rather than clinging to your present beliefs, biases, or behaviors and expecting the same results. Remember; “It’s not about you anyway.”

Once we reach a certain age, many of us give up investing in ourselves because we think we have learned everything we need to know about life. Some stop when they are put in a position of authority and only take the benefits without turning around and helping the next person in line. (The Big Me) At my ripe young age, (over 70) I am excited to tell you that I still have SO MUCH to learn about who I am and what I need to do in life. That takes an investment on my part to study, reflect, observe, and then take action. You see, life is full of magic and in order to find that magic you need to be looking for it.

With our Band of Brothers Foundational group, we are encouraging them to practice the “Elevator Guy” Daily 7. (See previous Elevator Guy remarks at elevatorguy.net) By investing a small amount of time each day, your mind reacts to what thoughts and practices you put into it. Daily reminders or a routine, help our thinking to become automatic and is something that can be valuable to us when we are faced with problems that are certain to come our way. We have other commitments in giving our time and treasurer to many worthy causes but remember, there is only one of you and you are worthy of that investment.

Achieving something alone can be very rewarding. But if you think about it, you didn’t achieve anything without the encouragement, inspiration and motivation from others. Be thankful that you have your health (“Your health is your wealth) and the energy to achieve those things that can benefit you personally, but also many others who need your leadership. A greater responsibility in life.

Invest in yourself but invest in others. It makes the journey of life so much more special when you find other people who can share success together as a team.
