OCTOBER 30, 2020
It is now officially the end of five years (Wow! Where did the time go?) since yours truly began writing things down through the Elevator Guy remarks. My original intent of writing down these weekly remarks, was a reminder to my kids, grandkids, and all of my UNICO associates and friends, in “lifting them up” to; Live more fully, Love more deeply, Laugh more freely, Listen more closely, Lead more intentionally, and Learn to grow in their faith, our family and their respective careers. What this old guy learned was that this is exactly what God had planned for me as I prepared for the next chapter in my life. I have always enjoyed being part of a great organization and it was my honor to work closely with many of you great individuals here at UNICO in serving our customers, our community, our associates, our carriers, and our friends. While I still miss working closely with all of you, I know I can continue to do so indirectly for the rest of my life. For that I am eternally grateful.
With that said, I am excited to continue my “studies of life” by helping others find out WHO they are in living out their own vision for their lives. With the help and assistance of my now retired brother, Dr. Randy Nelson, Elevator Guy Enterprises LLC is kicking off a new venture of building and supporting small groups of men. Our objective is to assist men in creating their own individual “Playbook for Life” by sharing our experiences in living a simple, ordered, joyous, and prosperous life. Our desire is that each of them grow and improve in creating the best versions of themselves in becoming “Authentic Men and Authentic Leaders.” It will require them to reflect and then act, by being more intentional in their Living, Loving, Laughing, Listening, Leading, and Learning. The end result will be their legacy to their respective family and friends.
While we are beginning with men, we are an equal opportunity organization. Since we are biological brothers, Randy and I felt we could share with other men just how blessed life can be with other men in their lives that not only value themselves, but value women (each of us has been married 49 and 48 years respectively) and valuing other men. Many of us are taught to “compete and compare” ourselves to other men which can impair our ability to understand our own value and uniqueness in this world. Try using your God-given strengths to become what God intended you to be. Use your experiences without becoming paralyzed by your past. Try “Looking Ahead” because there are great victories and rewards in front of us all.
Our goal is to have each man take a closer look at himself with his strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats life will give each one of us. Hopefully each man can find the wisdom, self-mastery, courage and love that can only come from knowing yourself. We want men to lead rewarding and productive lives by being good brothers, grateful husbands, loving fathers, dutiful sons, and supportive friends. All part of becoming “Authentic Men.” This takes introspection and practice to understand yourself and others. The benefits will be; learning leadership skills, teambuilding, mentoring/coaching, networking, finding our real purpose or calling in life, and in helping each one to define and live out their own definition of success. We will do this by helping them set their own vision plan as to what they want and what they may need in life to overcome obstacles, doubts, and fears.
The most powerful weapon on earth is “The Human Soul of Fire.” So, stay tuned each week in “Looking Ahead” as we continue to share what it means to: learn the power of our heritage, succeed in the various seasons of our life, grow our gifts, and build deeper relationships on our quest to become “Men on Fire.”
