LEADERSHIP
As part of our work with our Foundational Band of Brothers, (and Women of Worth) brother Randy and I initially thought we would build our group solely on the principles of Leadership because leadership is SO important in any family or organization. Our Band of Brothers is comprised of many of Lincoln’s future leaders and we felt that it was important that they learned some of the basics along with sharing and challenging each other in growing and improving as authentic men, husbands, fathers, sons, and team members. All facets of life are lacking in leadership today. Many of us have the ability and desire. We just need guidance and commitment into molding ourselves with excellence in leadership. With that said, Randy and I immersed ourselves in information by studying, reading and organizing a curriculum on Leadership and Teambuilding, by looking back on our many years in business and education. We will call that our “Monday morning Quarterbacking.”
While I am not on Facebook or Twitter (thank God), I am on LinkedIn and noticed a post from one of our own here at UNICO. My old partner Ric Stoakes, (Actually one of UNICO’s young stars from my perspective) posted an article on LinkedIn by Glenn Leibowitz entitled “13 Inspiring Traits of Exceptional Leaders.” It inspired me so much that I wanted to share them with all of you in my Elevator Guy remarks this week.
Exceptional Leaders do this:
- They trust you to do the job you’ve been hired to do.
- They seek your advice and input.
- They find opportunities to let you shine.
- They recognize your contributions.
- They have your back during tough times.
- They are master storytellers.
- They challenge you to do bigger and better things.
- They express appreciation.
- They are responsive.
10. They know when to apologize.
11. They give credit where credit is due.
12. They treat others with dignity and respect.
13. They CARE. (I love this one because we should all care about our Customers, associates, Community, our Carriers, and our own Company)
Thanks Ric for sharing these great words of wisdom. To each one of you; Go be one of these exceptional leaders in your family and organization. You never know what difference you may be making in the lives of others with your leadership. Want to be a Great Leader? Practice these traits and life will be much more rewarding and fulfilling to all involved.
Want to be Great or Significant in this life? Then go help everyone else around you to be better. Better at something or just a better person with Wisdom, Self-Mastery (Taming the Big ME), Courage, and Love.
